Alcohol-related

  • Alcohol Deaths and Related Disorders Increase Globally. Researchers have found that the proportion of alcohol-related deaths has increased since 2000 by 0.6 percent, with 3.8 percent of all global deaths in 2004 related to alcohol use -- an increase that the researchers attributed mainly to the number of women now drinking.
  • Alcohol May Not Be So Good for You, After All. Many studies have suggested that using alcohol in moderation may help heart health and even prevent diabetes and dementia, but some scientists are questioning the purported benefits of moderate drinking.
  • Alcohol's Effect on the Brain is Rapid, Detrimental. Researchers at Heidelberg University in Germany have found that it takes only six minutes for a change in brain cells to occur after drinking the equivalent of about three glasses of beer or two glasses of wine.
